“The goal of meditation isn’t to control your thoughts.

It’s to stop letting them control you.” - Unknown

What is meditation?

MEDITATION HELPS US SLOW DOWN THE ACTIVITY OF THE MIND TO CONNECT TO THE STILLNESS AND SILENT WITNESS WITHIN.

It’s a bit like gymnastics for the mind that needs to be trained to sit still. Or like training a puppy! We’re so used to doing, that we often forget to simply be. In small or infrequent amounts, stress can be healthy. But when it becomes chronic, it affects our decision making and compromises our immune system. That’s when we’re in di-stress.

Meditation creates a gap into our everyday life, giving us the opportunity to respond differently to life’s events, as opposed to reacting to them. Meditation is one of the greatest tools that can help us deal with greater ease with the stressors in life and lead a more balanced existence.

Our whole transformation brings us to the point where we realize that in our own being, we are enough.

How do we meditate?

THERE’RE MANY WAYS TO MEDITATE AND THERE ISN’T ONE BETTER THAN ANOTHER; WE’RE ALL DIFFERENT, WITH DIFFERENT NEEDS, AT DIFFERENT TIMES.

I studied with Davidji, world-renowned meditation teacher, for four months before graduating from his certified Master of Wisdom & Meditation Teacher training. It prepared me to lead all kinds of meditations. To name a few:

  • Focused attention

  • Walking meditation

  • Visualization

  • Restful awareness

  • Loving kindness

  • Mantra meditation

  • Transcendental or Primordial Sound meditation

The first time I meditated was after a two-hour yoga class. I was ‘high’ for two weeks. I would walk in the busy streets of Manhattan, but I felt I was floating with a heart wide open, full of love for everyone passing me by. I felt like crying, so grateful I was for every encounter.

Meditation, especially primordial sound, has transformed my life and even my DNA. My migraines are less frequent and less intense, and I’m better able to bring myself back to neutral during crisis.

I’m also trained in Psychic Meditation from Portland School and was initiated to Inka Mysticism by Elizabeth Jenkins. I love the language, the imagery and the deep connections I form with Nature. It is all energy. When channelled, it has the infinite power to heal and transform each and everyone of us.

Benefits

Here are some of the benefits of meditating regularly:

  • Experience calm, peace and relaxation

  • Breathe better

  • Learn to manage and release stress and anxiety

  • Gain awareness and perspective

  • Gain clarity and strengthen your focus and attention

  • Gain emotional resilience

  • Build confidence, self-esteem and trust in the world

  • Become a greater communicator

  • Improve connectivity between brain regions

  • Release and alleviate physical pains.

Through a regular practice, for as little as a few minutes a day even, we start noticing change within ourself. Maybe we pause before reacting as we normally would. We progressively become more aware of our thoughts and are able to watch, and eventually, change our patterns.

In that space of oneness, we realize that we belong, that we matter and that we’re enough.
